About our grants
We award grants to small, local nonprofits committed to North Carolinians. We do this with the goal of making a deeper impact on community-based charities that meet specific needs of our neighbors.
- Up to $25,000 may be awarded each quarter.
- We focus on areas of health care, housing, human services and hunger.
- Applicants must meet eligibility criteria.
- Applications must be submitted at least one month before funds are required.
Open grant application periods
We will accept grant applications during the following periods:
to January 15
to April 15
to July 15
to October 15
Grant applications will be considered only during the period in which they are submitted. Organizations may re-apply for a grant one year from the date of the previous application.

- A public charity, private foundation, nonprofit, or government entity that qualifies as a 501(c)(3) tax‑exempt organization
- A school, hospital, or local governmental organization that holds nonprofit status similar to that of 501(c)(3) organizations (Examples include: hospitals with foundations, schools with charitable programs, and local government professional development associations.)
Completing your application
Before you apply, please gather the following documents to upload with your application:
- Federal Tax ID number
- Organization’s annual budget
- Organization’s audit or financial budget
- Copy of organization’s W-9 form
You'll be required to complete four steps:
Select the Grant application button (which opens a new tab) to get started. Feel free to keep this tab open to view the instructions as you complete your application. Next, click the “Register” button to create an account with SurveyMonkey Apply, a third-party platform that we use to manage grant applications. You must have an account to apply for a grant. Complete the registration form and select “Create account.” You’ll be prompted to fill in details about your organization’s structure and tax status. Once you’ve completed this form, your registration confirmation page will appear. Click “Continue to site.”
Verify your email address
Select the “Send verification link” button. Check your inbox for an email from email@example.com to verify your address. Click the “Confirm email address” button. You’ll see a message confirming your email is now verified. Select “Continue.”
Confirm your eligibility
You will need to confirm your organization’s eligibility to be considered for a grant. Select the “View programs” button, and you’ll be prompted to complete your Eligibility Profile. Click the button to access the two eligibility questions. If you answer “yes” to both, your eligibility will be confirmed. Next, select “Save my profile” at the bottom of the page. You’ll advance to the Community Grant Application page, where you can choose “More” to begin your application.
Submit documents and information
Click the “Apply” button to the top right of the page to begin. After the application opens, complete the tasks listed. When you’re done, select “Submit.”
If you need to leave the application and return later, click “Save & continue editing” before you exit the Grant application portal. When you’re ready to continue your application, return to the Community Grant Application page and select “Log in” at the top right of the page.
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive an automated email confirming your application has been received. You can check the status of your application at any time by logging in to the Grant application portal. Because of the high volume of applications we receive each quarter, we request your cooperation as we take the time to read through each carefully. Your organization will be notified of its application status before the next application period opens.
Up to three nonprofits may be awarded community grants during each application period. If your organization is awarded a grant, you will be contacted to discuss next steps. If your organization is not awarded a grant, you may re-apply one year from the date of your previous application.
